Logroño

Golf and wine tourism lovers find the best of both worlds in Logroño, capital city of La Rioja. On the one hand, the city has a magnificent public venue for practicing this sport, El Campo de Logroño, and three other golf courses just a short drive away: Rioja Alta Golf Club, Club de Campo Sojuela and Izki Golf.

On the other hand, Logroño offers a tourism proposal away from the massive crowds, surrounded by vineyards and eight of the most prestigious wineries in Rioja, as well as a diverse cultural activity and gastronomy of the highest level, with two starred restaurants Michelin and one of the most famous tapas areas in Spain, Laurel and San Juan streets.

For all these singularities, and for many more, in 2019 Logroño was awarded by the International Golf Travel Writers Association (IGTWA) as “Golf Destination to Discover”.

Rioja Alavesa

Rioja Alavesa can be smelled, seen, felt, touched… The view relaxes as it flies over the vine, cereal and olive groves, which turn into a mosaic of colors when autumn arrives. Taste is the great protagonist, since we are in a region with a rich gastronomic culture linked to wine and oil.

In Rioja Alavesa there are wineries in all corners of the region, above all there are small family wineries with a century-old tradition “calados” that are dug into the subsoil below the houses, and also impressive avant-garde wineries. Seeing medieval towns full of history and charm such as Laguardia, just 20 minutes from Logroño and declared one of the “Most Beautiful Towns in Spain” becomes
an essential option.

Only 5 km from it, in the town of Elciego, is the famous winery and hotel “Marqués de Riscal” designed by the famous architect Frank O. Gehry.

A visit to these “calados” caves and a wine tasting in the many existing wineries must be an essential part of your experience, because wine has marked the life and history of this land since immemorial time.

Sojuela – La Rioja

Club de Campo Sojuela is located among a forest of oaks, holm oaks and pines, in the Moncalvillo Green Residential Complex, 20 km from Logroño.

At Club de Campo Sojuela you can enjoy a fun and demanding course; 18 holes, par 72. It was originally designed by the legendary player Severiano Ballesteros and finished by Aymerich Golf. The course has excellent views of the city of Logroño and the Moncalvillo mountain range that surrounds it with peaks higher than 1,200 m, from where practically the entire Ebro valley in La Rioja is visible.

Izki Golf

This course, designed by the unforgettable Severiano Ballesteros, represents a complete innovation in golf architecture, placing special emphasis on respect for nature, native species and the natural environment. Since its inauguration in 1994, Izki Golf has hosted 5 Challenge Tour events as well as various events of the Spanish Championship for men and women, which gives a magnificent idea of the quality of this course spread over 98 hectares with a total length of 7 kilometers and par 72.

Rioja Alta Golf Club

Cirueña – La Rioja

Rioja Alta Golf Club is made up of an 18-hole par 72 course, on 71.16 hectares of land in the municipality of Cirueña (La Rioja), next to the Camino de Santiago and only 5 kilometers from Santo Domingo de la Calzada, 12 km. from the Valdezcaray ski station and about 25 kms. from Haro, capital of Rioja wine.

The design of the course, carried out by Enrique Saenger-Golf Projects, has used the topography of the estate presenting a varied relief, being relatively rugged in the perimeter areas and in the ravine around which the protected oak grove is located and classified as singular vegetation. In the central area of the farm, the topography is smooth, with a downward slope from west to east.

The Logroño Golf Course is located just 5 kilometers from the center of Logroño and offers a range of leisure and enjoyment possibilities in a unique natural environment, with privileged views over the reservoir and lagoon ecosystems that have been created on this natural park of La Grajera. A spectacular 18-hole golf course, par 72, which has a varied and balanced course offering a pleasant and fun game, while demanding care from those who want to get a good result.

The Logroño golf course has the longest hole in Spain and one of the longest in the world at 619 meters as an added value to its course, its main difficulty being its great length.
